Taste your words
My mom had a saying that I have of-fen quoted. "Taste your words before they leave your mouth". Such wise wisdom from a woman who never made it past the 8th grade. And yes she will be mad at me for saying that but I feel that it needs saying. It is always something that bothered her and she was even ashamed of. But it wasn't her fault she grew up in the south in Kentucky to be exact and her family raised tobacco for a living. But back in those days the education was more important for the boys. At least that how they all looked at it then. The boys got the education because they would need to provide for their families, but the girls were expected to be the mom and take care of the home. Now a days that isn't the case but in her time of growing up it was. Anyway back to my thought, for a woman who didn't have much formal education she did have a lot of common sense, something that I think many folks lack today, I was talking to a friend today, who is with those around him and the things that they say and their actions. And it made me think of what my mom would say, to many times we just speak without thought to what we are even saying, or how we are saying it. And if we just tasted our words before they left our mouth we might rethink them. So many times is isn't even what we say but how we say it, do we say it with the flavor of hot sauce, meaning strong and harsh or could we say it with the taste of a sweet mixed berry jam. I know that if we could just take the time to taste our words, life could be sweeter and not so bitter and harsh.
